Hi friends, and happy Friday! Today I have two one skein projects that I finished last month to share with you. Both feature special yarns and took just one skein. I love projects that feel like a treat while their being knit — the knitting equivalent of a trip to the spa or a pedicure, if you know what I mean. And I’m so happy with the finished objects.
So, first up: Melodia, by Janino Kallio (aka Woolenberry), knit in the Knitting Goddess BFL/Masham Sparkle 4-ply.
Hi friends! Another week’s galloping by faster than I can believe — how is it Tuesday evening already!?
Though it’s almost a distant memory, we had a friend visiting over the weekend and took advantage of having rented a car to retrieve him from the airport to take another ramble in the area! There’s so much prettiness to explore here — this weekend was another reminder that, if we do get a car in the not too distant future, it would open up a nice world of weekend adventuring!
Well, yesterday completely slipped me by!
If you’ve been reading along here for awhile, you’ll know that the first Thursday of the month is sock time! I didn’t realize until late yesterday that it had already come around again (I blame my cold!)
This morning, as I sipped my coffee and knit, as is my wont, I was thinking what a shame it was that I hadn’t done any sock knitting all month, and that I’d have to miss this month’s update … all the while I was knitting on a sock! Doh!

It’s the first Thursday of the month, the day a little group of us chat about socks.
Wow, it’s that time again … first Thursday of the month, the time that a little group of us — including Paula at Spin a Yarn, Stefanie at Wooly Cakes and Wooden Spoons, and Kat at Felinity Knits — blog about our sock knitting!
As I’ve mentioned a few times recently, my Viola socks are languishing a bit. I’ve been trying to figure out why that is. I couldn’t wait to cast them on, I love the pattern, I love the yarn … but I’ve just completely stalled out on the gusset! I think part of it I’ve been distracted by other things, like nearly finishing my Arrosa shawl and starting Southwell.
But I also think part of me needs to change things up. I’ve knit a fair few pair of plain jane socks (my Droving Socks excepted!) over the past six months, and I think maybe it’s time for a little change of pace.
So instead of showing you yet another picture of my Viola socks in the same place (basically they’ve barely grown since this post), wanna help me with planning my next pair?

Knitting: Well, this picture might look a little familiar. Sure, the socks are a little longer, and the hat brim is a bit further advanced than it was two weeks ago … it’s just, you know, been ripped out and reknit since! The important thing is, after letting it sit for a few days, I got my Constellate re-cast on, and I’m glad that I went ahead and restarted it. The twisted rib is just so pretty … I would have been sad whenever I looked at my brim and knew that the rib * should * have been twisted. And, ahem, I’m almost back to the start of the hat’s patterning — I’d made it two repeats in before I ripped it all back last week! Mr. N’s Smooth Operators are growing (as is the yarn’s pooling!) It’s time to put the yarn in for the afterthought heel — I might even have them done for him before our February visit!
Reading: I still haven’t been reading (for pleasure, I should say! I do lots of reading for work), and I want to change that. I just need to make myself stop knitting a little earlier in the evening and get in bed before before I’m too tired to read! But I had a knitting query yesterday about which I knew Elizabeth Zimmerman would have something to say. So I pulled out my trusty copy of Knitting Workshop. Sure enough, EZ had some instructions – slightly terse, but encouraging me to be courageous and move boldly forward — on a question I had about different yoke constructions. And it also meant I could read over the lovely inscription my mom wrote when she gave me the book — and wish we weren’t several states apart, but instead could be sat knitting together!
