Well, I’m a day late and a pair of newly started socks short, but it’s (the day after) the first Thursday of the month, so let’s talk socks!

Hello again!
It’s the first Thursday of the month, the day a little group of us chat about socks.
Once Upon a Sock: June edition
Oof, the days go fast, don’t they?
It’s the first Thursday of the month again, so time to talk about socks.
So, I have a confession to make … for the first time in maybe a year, I don’t have a pair of socks on the needles!
Don’t get me wrong, I have plans … some plans I am really excited to share as they take shape. But the combination of lots of WIPs and Stage 1 Moving has not been conducive to Starting New Things. Especially if those things require a bit of thought.
So instead, I have some pictures of my finished Favorite Socks to share (as if you haven’t seen enough pictures of them in progress) (on Ravelry here)
Once Upon a Sock: May Edition
Hi friends!
It’s that time again … the first Thursday of the month, the day a little knot of us talk about knitting socks.
So, I’m still working on my Emily’s Favorite Socks. I think I’ve said for at least two months that they were going to be finished before the next first Thursday. Once Upon a Sock is becoming an object lesson for me in knitting expectations versus knitting reality!
But I have made some progress on the socks, thanks to another week of travel, mostly by train — great sock knitting time!
There’s not much to report since the pattern’s pretty simple and I’ve been knitting these since February! I always love to see what hand-dyed yarn looks like in plain stockinette — so I’ve been admiring the sock soles. Viola Yarns are so gorgeously dyed … I love the subtle flecks of color that appear, even in the solids:
I’m an inch and a half or two inches short of starting the toe, so it’s almost time to decide what colors to use. The light pinkish-white has been knit with the least, so I’m thinking of using it for the toe … maybe with a single row of orange at the start of the toe – what do you think?
My fellow Once Upon a Sock-ers are all up to some lovely sock knitting this month. Go check out Paula at Spin a Yarn, Kat at Felinity Knits, and Stefanie at Wooly Cakes and Wooden Spoons. Also, big thanks to Stefanie for coming up with our cool new header! If you’d like to join up, just let one of us know – the more the merrier!
More soon!

Once Upon a Sock: April Edition
Wow, it’s that time again … first Thursday of the month, the time that a little group of us — including Paula at Spin a Yarn, Stefanie at Wooly Cakes and Wooden Spoons, and Kat at Felinity Knits — blog about our sock knitting!
As I’ve mentioned a few times recently, my Viola socks are languishing a bit. I’ve been trying to figure out why that is. I couldn’t wait to cast them on, I love the pattern, I love the yarn … but I’ve just completely stalled out on the gusset! I think part of it I’ve been distracted by other things, like nearly finishing my Arrosa shawl and starting Southwell.
But I also think part of me needs to change things up. I’ve knit a fair few pair of plain jane socks (my Droving Socks excepted!) over the past six months, and I think maybe it’s time for a little change of pace.
So instead of showing you yet another picture of my Viola socks in the same place (basically they’ve barely grown since this post), wanna help me with planning my next pair?
Once Upon a Sock: Droving
Phew, is it really December?
It’s the first Thursday of the month, so time to talk about some socks!

Once Upon a Sock: Tube Operators
It’s the first Thursday of the month — that means it’s time for some sock talk!
And friends, I’m pretty excited because … I have some finished socks to share!
Once Upon a Sock: Smooth Operators
Hi friends, and happy Thursday!
As you can see, Thursday sock time is back, under a slightly different guise. After some chatting amongst the group of us who blog about socks on Thursday, we’ve decided to move sock talk to a once a month format. So stop by the first Thursday of every month for some gabbing about socks!
My Tube Operators, as I’ve taken to calling them, are coming along, slowly but surely. I’ve inserted the waste yarn for my afterthought heel (the lavender strip between the pink and green stripes closest to my needle) and have been working on them here and there.
