Once Upon a Sock, January Edition

Hi friends! And happy new year!

Wow, how is it the first Thursday of the month again, let alone of 2018!

I’m still traveling in the US, so this will be quick, but I didn’t want to miss the first sock post of the new year!  And luckily, I have some new socks to share!

These were my Christmas Eve cast on: Lumineux  by Ysolda Teague from Knitworthy 3, one of the patterns I had in my bundle of patterned socks to knit this year, which I talked about last month’s post!  Woo!  I have been loving knitting this pattern … I love watching the subtle zig zags emerge!

The yarn is Countess Ablaze Sparkly Bluefaced Baron Sock in a one-off color, Velociraptor.  It’s hard to capture the beauty of this variegated colorway on camera.  I got it last month on a lovely visit to Manchester — I liked it in skein, but I really love it knit up.  And that lovely lilac is some Hedgehog Fiber Sock which I’ll use for heels and toes, and then use the remainder to knit a pair of Vintage Fairy Lights, another pattern I’d flagged up in my last Once Upon a Sock post.

I’m knitting these concurrently, one at a time. I did this for my Abisko Socks and found it a great mix — I love the instant gratification that I get working on one sock, but alternating working on both helps reduce second sock syndrome. I have the leg of sock one down, and the second one cast on, hoorah!

For more sock talk, go check out what my fellow sockalongers are talking about this month.  Stefanie at Wooly Cakes and Wooden Spoons and Paula at Spin a Yarn have some lovely socks-in-progress, and Kat at Felinity Knits has dug up some beautiful sock patterns she hopes to knit in 2018. And if you’d like to join us, we post on the first Thursday of the month.

Much more next week, when I’ve returned home and back into a normal schedule!

  1. Oh, goodness! These are going to be wonderful!! I absolutely love that you’re using the contrasting Hedgehog Fibres lilac for the toes and heels. Can’t wait to see more! Happy New Year, Katherine!!!

  2. Looks you you and Stefanie are both knitting concurrent socks! I should have thought of that too 🙂 Although I do like doing TAAT, I think my reasoning was that I just didn’t want to think about the second sock with the pair I’m working on right now. That yarn is sublime…I’m drooling over the way it is knitting up. I’ve linked you up so the January post is now complete 🙂 Woo hoo!
