It’s Wednesday, and I’ve been eager to get back to regular Unraveled posts, hosted by As Kat Knits for bloggers to share what they’re crafting and reading on in a given week.
The trouble is, I’ve once again fallen into the habit of staying up too late, and not doing any bedtime reading … so no new books to share. (Though, I think I might start an Audible trial — listening to books while knitting could be a good thing for me at the moment!)
And I had thought I might be able to show you a shot of my joined up Starting Point, or, if I was very lucky, another WIP that had started getting attention in the wake of my imminent completion of the shawl.
Ha ha ha.
My Starting Point looks virtually the same as it did on Monday, with maybe three extra rows on the second piece. Not because I’ve only knit three rows since Monday. Oh no. I’ve learned, for the millionth time, that knitting from a non-happy place is no way to knit. In my continued impatience to just. get. done., I just kept making mistakes, which culminated in my having to rip back a whole big band of color in a fit of anger last night.
It’s moments like these when I need to remind myself: this is my hobby. I do it for the love of it and to help me relax.I mean, what’s going to happen if it takes me a few days longer to knit this shawl? (To be clear: I for sure was not calm and philosophical last night post-frogging!)
So, in the spirit of that, let’s pause and smell the roses. Literally. The research library I’m working at this summer is closed to the public on Tuesdays. I like to walk some in the gardens each day, but Tuesdays are particularly nice as they are extra quiet. I took my camera on a walk around the rose and herb gardens yesterday — I think I might try to do this in one of the different gardens each week so you can see some of the loveliness too (I’ve shared some about the amazing cactus garden in a post last year)
Happy Wednesday, and I’ll be back with more knitting and a better knitting attitude soon. Especially as my little sister arrives for a week-long visit tomorrow!!!! Lots to be excited about 🙂
Have you heard of Hoopla? It’s free when you link it up to your library. Of course that may not help when you move to the UK; however it might be worth it while you’re still here in the states. It has a lot of current books on audio. For example, my book club is currently reading “A Man Called Ove” and I’m listening to it while knitting.
I really like the pics of your roses. I’m currently looking at a gorgeous bouquet of white roses and lilies that my work team sent me and enjoying the scent of them. Unfortunately, my little brother passed away this last Saturday. Treasure the time and memories made with your little sister. Give her an extra big hug because you never know.

Oh Paula, I am so, so sorry to hear about your brother. My heart goes out to you during what must be a very difficult time. I’ll have you and your family in my thoughts. I am sending you a big hug from LA. If there’s anything I can do, please let me know.

Aww…thank you, Katherine. I appreciate it. It’s hard; however I am very happy that he is no longer suffering and in pain. I picked up my rainbow blanket again yesterday so it’s bright, fun colors are helping with sad thoughts. Big hugs back to you.

I like audiobooks. If my library offers a book I wanted to read, I listen to the sample to see if I like the narrator’s voice. I wish they had more children’s books on audio because I’d have more patience reading them that way than by a hard copy.

Jim Dale, who narrated the Harry Potter books, is terrific as is Nathaniel Parker, who narrated the Artemis Fowl series.

Oh thanks Stefanie — it’s good to know some of the narrators who you have found good. I feel like audiobooks are there own world, with so much to learn about what you like!

Sorry about your Starting Point. That’s disappointing, but it’s going to be stunning when it’s finished. You girls stay out of trouble while Lizzie is visiting. I’ll be missing you both. 😘

Sometime I feel like my knitting is just producing and I’m not enjoying it as much as I would hope. Usually to get myself out of that funk I stay off of social media for a few days so I’m not comparing myself to others and I start a brand new project that I’m excited about

A social media break is a great idea, Sierra. Both because of the comparing and also taking a break from seeing all the new yarn, new patterns, etc. that you’d rather be knitting! I’m hoping I can find some time to start a new project soon.

whoa, you live in a beautiful area! My knitting is slow and steady. I’m busy with summer schedules and doing things somewhat spontaneously 🙂

I’m lucky to be in Southern California for the next two months. It’s beautiful — and it definitely helps that where I work has all these beautifully maintained gardens!
