Hi friends!
It’s that time again … the first Thursday of the month, the day a little knot of us talk about knitting socks.
So, I’m still working on my Emily’s Favorite Socks. I think I’ve said for at least two months that they were going to be finished before the next first Thursday. Once Upon a Sock is becoming an object lesson for me in knitting expectations versus knitting reality!
But I have made some progress on the socks, thanks to another week of travel, mostly by train — great sock knitting time!
There’s not much to report since the pattern’s pretty simple and I’ve been knitting these since February! I always love to see what hand-dyed yarn looks like in plain stockinette — so I’ve been admiring the sock soles. Viola Yarns are so gorgeously dyed … I love the subtle flecks of color that appear, even in the solids:
I’m an inch and a half or two inches short of starting the toe, so it’s almost time to decide what colors to use. The light pinkish-white has been knit with the least, so I’m thinking of using it for the toe … maybe with a single row of orange at the start of the toe – what do you think?
My fellow Once Upon a Sock-ers are all up to some lovely sock knitting this month. Go check out Paula at Spin a Yarn, Kat at Felinity Knits, and Stefanie at Wooly Cakes and Wooden Spoons. Also, big thanks to Stefanie for coming up with our cool new header! If you’d like to join up, just let one of us know – the more the merrier!
More soon!

I ❤️ the color scheme of these socks! That minty blue is my favorite.

Hehe it’s mine too! It’s the only color that didn’t come in the kit – I bought it as a separate mini skein!

I started a pair of cabled socks in February…given that I can knit a pair of socks in a couple of days if I really try, I thought they would be a quick knit! Nope, not quite at the toe of the first one! For some reason, I just don’t want to knit them. (I WILL finish though!)
Your socks are really pretty, I love the colours. Especially the grey, I love grey!

Wow a pair in a couple of days – that’s impressive!! My big problem is getting distracted by other knitting! I’d like to try a pair of cabled socks at some point! Thanks for your kind words and for stopping by!

A couple of days for a plain sock if all I do is knit…no work or housework!
I’ve tried to be more focussed with my knitting and not end up with loads of half done things..but that doesn’t help with projects I end up disliking!

I like the minty colour too. If you have not got enough for the toes, how about reversing the stripes from the top?

Oh that’s a great idea! Going to give that some thought!

They are super pretty. I like the idea of reversing the stripes from the cuff too.

Definitely a single orange stripe at the start of the toe!! I just love these! 🙂

Thanks, Melinda! I thought that single stripe might be fun – mimicking sporty or tube socks hehe!

At first I was like “definitely an orange stripe first”; however then I read the comment about reversing the stripes that were at the top and I LOVE that idea! These are looking really good 🙂 At least your socks have not been hanging around since June of last year. I am absolutely determined, however it may not work out, to have my Smooth Operators finished by next month’s post 🙂 I think a year is long enough!
