FO: Arroyo Arrosa

Hi friends and happy Sunday!

It is Sunday right?

I tell you, this week (who am I kidding, this month!) has been a blur.  We had a really fun week with all of Mr. N’s visiting family, but it was mega busy.  Like so busy that I think I knit a total of three rows last week.  Very unlike me!

Everyone left Friday, and it was of course sad to say goodbye. I’d like to say that Mr. N and I then settled in for a chilled out weekend together (filled with knitting, of course). But I’ve spent most of the weekend trying to catch up on work that was neglected during all the fun!

Buuuut I did break from work long enough to go out with Mr. N for a little sushi dinner last night and wore my finished Arroyo Arrosa shawl (southern California evenings — great for knit shawls!)  I finished this shawl back at the beginning of the month, but but haven’t shared it here yet. So we made a quick stop on the way to dinner to snap some pictures.

The pattern, designed by Jennifer Weissman, was the cover pattern from the Spring 2017 issue of Pom Pom mag:

It was a lot of fun to knit.  The stockinette section was really quick, and the mix of little florets and simple feather and fan was just enough to keep things interesting.   The pattern was really just what I needed: a fun, quick knit, easy enough to work on while watching TV, but interesting enough to keep my attention.

I used (stashed!) Uncommon Thread Yarn Everyday Sock Yarn in Confetti, with a teeny pop of Peony for the edging.   I love the really subtle flecks of the Confetti colorway:

This shawl was also a great reminder of the importance of blocking … it transformed from a rumpled up triangle to something magically light and airy with a good soak and stretch, the perfect weight for keeping off spring and summer evening chills:

And I love the size – generous enough to easily wrap around the shoulders (I hate dinky shawls!)

So, overall, a fast and fun knit, that I think I’ll get a lot of wear out of — the grey of course means it can go with lots, and it’ll be fun to wear it with outfits that pick out the little flecks of color.  Last night, I wore it with some bright pink sandals, which made me very happy:

As you can see, we had some feathered friends hanging around.  I was excited to spy this guy, who I assumed was some sort of native Californian duck:

But after a little googling, I’m pretty sure he’s a Mandarin duck — apparently, some have escaped in California and wander about!
