Wow, it’s that time again … first Thursday of the month, the time that a little group of us — including Paula at Spin a Yarn, Stefanie at Wooly Cakes and Wooden Spoons, and Kat at Felinity Knits — blog about our sock knitting!
As I’ve mentioned a few times recently, my Viola socks are languishing a bit. I’ve been trying to figure out why that is. I couldn’t wait to cast them on, I love the pattern, I love the yarn … but I’ve just completely stalled out on the gusset! I think part of it I’ve been distracted by other things, like nearly finishing my Arrosa shawl and starting Southwell.
But I also think part of me needs to change things up. I’ve knit a fair few pair of plain jane socks (my Droving Socks excepted!) over the past six months, and I think maybe it’s time for a little change of pace.
So instead of showing you yet another picture of my Viola socks in the same place (basically they’ve barely grown since this post), wanna help me with planning my next pair?
The newest sock pattern that’s caught my eye is Knitterarium’s To Darcy with Love. Still nothing terribly complicated, but some little cables to add interest. And as a committed Austen fan, I love the name, of course!
The only problem is, while I have tonnnns of sock yarn in my stash, most of it’s on the variegated side. I’m wondering if either this Koigu (on the left) or Sophie’s Toes might work with the pattern.
As tempting as I’m finding casting on for those (especially because .. there’s an Instagram KAL for them April 8-May 31. I have a chronic weakness for KALs), I have another little little idea that I think I want to try out first. I won’t say too much now, only that they’re socks that would be good for using up scraps, involve some baby colorwork, and if they work out, they might (whispers) result in a little recipe/pattern …
Here are the colors I’m playing around with — I am not positive I have enough of the dark gray for what I want to do, but I really hope so because this grellow, it’s making my heart sing:
I’ve been playing with a few more colors combos in case I dont have enough … so hopefully I’ll have a fun new beginning to show you soon. But must get those Viola socks off the needles first!
Hope your week is ending on a sweet note!
