Knitting: Hyacinthus Armwarmers, by Jen Arnall-Culliford. This is the first project from AC Knitwear’s A Year of Techniques, and I’m in love. I started my first mitt Sunday and have knit on nothing since! The technique featured in the pattern is helical stripes, which creates lovely one row stripes with no jog and no awkward carrying up of yarn — Jen’s video (available on Mason Dixon Knitting) is super clear and helpful, and the pattern is quite addictive …. just one more stripe, just one more stripe! I’ve made a small start on mitt number two, then it will be thumbs for both and finished. The yarn is a Schoppel-Wolle Zauberball, in the Tropical Fish colorway. I see another pair of these in my future, as soon as I get my hands on another Zauberball …
Reading: Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad. I finished The Yorkshire Shepherdess on the plane ride to LA and have been casting around for what to read next. I read the Kindle sample of The Underground Railroad last night, and it seems to be as good as all the accolades would suggest. I’ll report back with more once I’m in farther.
You can head over to the original Yarnalong post to see what others are knitting and reading this week, and as always, I love hearing what you’re up to at midweek in the comments!
Stripes are so addicting. I have zic zac scarf I have been working on and it’s the same principal. VERY hard to put down.

Ooh, very pretty! I’m a huge fan of stripes myself — and you’re right, they are addicting!
Hope you enjoy “Underground Railroad.” I thought it was good, but not QUITE worthy of the insane amount of hype.

I’ve never heard of this technique, but I’m all for anything that makes knitting stripes simpler.
Underground Railroad sounds like it will be a fascinating book; I hope you enjoy it.
