Yarnalong: Rail Trail and Remembering Babylon

Knitting: Rail Trail, by Kristen TenDyke, from the Jill Draper Makes Stuff Rural Renewal Collection.  Right after Thanksgiving, my mom and I splurged on a kit for this sweater — with the purchase of a little additional main color and one of the contrast colors, we were able to split one of Jill Draper’s lovely kits for the sweater. It’s knit out of Jill Draper Mohonk yarn, which is spun from the wool of New York cormo sheep.  We cast on together Christmas day, and so far, the yarn’s a joy to knit with — sturdy but soft.  And the colors are just beautiful.  You can’t see much of my sweater yet, especially with it scrunched up on a 16″ circular, but hopefully I’ll have more progress to share soon!

Reading:  Remembering Babylon, by David Malouf.  I’m a little embarrassed it’s taken me so long to read such a relatively short book.  If I’m lucky, I manage a chapter a night before bed  — but with all the bustle of the holidays, I haven’t even done that the last few nights! Still enjoying this book though, and hoping to finish it soon!

Head over to the original Yarnalong post to see what everyone’s up to this week.  What are you knitting and reading?

I’m hoping to have a little Christmas round up post, complete with my favorite recipe for New Year’s Eve celebrations, up tomorrow — hope you’ll stop by!
