Knitting: Droving by Ann Kingstone, from the lovely Tup Knits book. The main color is a yarn by New Zealand indie dyer Red Riding Hood Yarns. It’s her Fleur Sock base in the color way Flight of the Concords Griffin which Mr. N got me for Christmas a few years ago — I’ve been saving it for something special. The contrast is a yarn I’ve had in my stash for ages (like 8 or 10 years!) It’s Brooklyn Handspun Signature Sock, and I think the color’s called Sunset Wheat (I’ve temporarily mislaid the tag – doh!) The twist and feel of the two yarns were quite different, so I wasn’t sure if they’d play well together when I cast on, but they’ve got on beautifully. I love the sheep-y pattern, but it’s been very slow going for me. I’ve just completed the sheep of the first sock, now there’s some more geometric colorwork–I’m much faster when I can memorize the colorwork repeat or see in the knitting what’s coming next — then the heel and foot are knit plain. I’m toying with the idea of using the contrast color for my heel.
Reading: Persuasion, by Jane Austen. Every so often, I like to sink into a Jane Austen novel. Persuasion is probably my favorite of them all, so as soon as I get article revisions, which have temporarily taken over my life, out of the way, I’m going to spend some quality time with Anne Elliot.

so very sweet but i thought it was an owl ~ my bad!! i started my first sock last week and 1/4 of the way in, i am just looking at it, thinking about it!!!

Haha, I can see why you’d say that now that I look at it! The knitting is curling up a bit, so you can’t see the little sheep legs at the moment, which doesn’t help! Congratulations on starting your first sock — they can be a bit addictive!

I’ve had “Persuasion” on my TBR(again) pile since the summer. I think it’s time to pick it up again! Also love your knitting although I too thought it was an owl at first.

Agreed!! Although *whispers* I haven’t read Northanger Abbey. Please don’t tell the other Austenites as I’m afraid they’ll kick me out of the club 😉 Maybe it should be next on my list!

Your colourwork is beautiful! Something I keep meaning to try. I can’t wait to see the finished product. I love Jane Austen too. It’s been a while since I read her books, but I just rewatched Pride & Prejudice.

Thank you – if you could see it in person, you’d see there are all sorts of little mistakes where I’ve stranded too tightly or too loosely! But it’s all good practice. I’ve been having regular Austen movie viewings with some friends, which is part of what prompted me to pick up Persuasion again!

I love your colorwork! I like how it’s subtle and soft. I haven’t read that book yet of Jane’s. I will try to find the audiobook. I’ve listened to the audio of Pride & Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility so far.

I just printed the Droving pattern and laid out the yarn. I have to get some Christmas presents out of the way and then I’m going to cast on. I just love your yarn choices and your knitting is fabulous.

I picked a blue/green hand painted yarn for the background and a natural colored angora mix for the sheep. After seeing yours I may need to rethink the sheep. 🙂
