Friday Favorites

Hi friends, and happy Friday!  Lots of favorites to share with you today, so let’s dive in, shall well!?

  • These faublous colorwork socks. I love the bold, graphic houndstooth pattern.  I can imagine wearing them with my favorite brogues.
  • And have you seen these delicate cabled slippers?  So pretty that I think I might worry about wearing them around the house and messing them up!
  • And, for your top end: how about this Homebrew Hat?  I may have impulse bought a skein of yarn for this the other day … oops!
  • With cooler temperatures in Philadelphia to stay (I think!), I’ve been eyeing the new  Glacier Park Cowl. I’d love to get my hands on some Woolfolk yarn.
  • I’ve talked about my love (and, ahem, rather large collection) of knitting bags before.  This one strikes pretty close to home ….
  • A Playful Day’s interview with Jess and Casey, the founders of Ravelry, was so interesting and inspiring.  I joined Ravelry pretty early, and it made me think a lot about that time — I even remember when Jess and Casey first announced they were going to be hiring someone.  I was about a year off from finishing college, and was so upset that I couldn’t apply!  Anyway, I really enjoyed hearing Jess and Casey talk about how they came up with the idea for Ravelry and how and when they decided to turn it into a reality.  I love Ravelry, and this just deepened by appreciation of the wonderful community that makes it! Definitely give it a listen if you haven’t already!
  • And for 51 seconds of pure sheepy silliness, check out this amazing video that Mr. N found and sent to me yesterday!

  • How pretty is this apple cake?
  • I love this idea for a fall salad!
  • Samosas at home — I loooove a good samosa.  We tried to make them once ourselves without much success.  Maybe I’ll crack it with this recipe!
  • After seeing Stefanie’s post over at Wooly Cakes and Wooden Spoons about these cookies (you might have to scroll down a bit to get to the recipe), I decided to make a batch last night!  Mr. N loves cherries and arrives today (!!!), so I’ve got these ready and waiting.  (I may have have tested them for poison last night – they were delicious!) I love a good oatmeal cookie – and the addition of cardamom is so good.  I followed Stefanie’s lead and added chocolate chips and walnuts to mine!
  • I live for soup season.  I try to make my own veg stock with leftover peelings, etc., but I don’t always get to it.  So I was really excited to see this recipe to make your own bouillon mix!
  • And combining my love of food and history, check out this fascinating article on the history of election cakes!

What’s caught your eye this week?
