Well, it seems it’s Thursday again, with Friday swiftly approaching (hoorah!), so let’s talk socks!
Progress on my Smooth Operators is proceeding apace! They’re curling a bit in this picture, but I’ve almost gotten through the whole stripe sequence. As a quick refresher (or if you’re just joining us: welcome!), the yarn is Trailing Clouds sock yarn in the colorway “Mind the Gap” — so each stripe is the color of one of the eleven Tube lines (+ the orange London Overground). I’ve just about finished the Northern line, and then the only unaccounted for line is the District line — which I think of as “my” line, since, in recent memory at least, I’ve stayed in Kew/Richmond when visiting London (because of proximity to the National Archives) which is connected to the rest of London by the District line. I, as a result, have a great fondness for that line … and it’s Kelly Green, one of my favorite colors! My hope is the sock legs will be long enough once I’ve gotten through the last line to insert the afterthought heel … because wouldn’t that be lovely and tidy?
All my knitting at the moment seems to be stockinette in the round (see yesterday’s post) … which is great for knitting when you’re feeling a bit worn out, as I have been ever since the move, but doesn’t provide the best blogging fodder. All I can really say about these is I love the yarn — the BFL is a joy to knit with and the colors make me soooo happy!
Even when I don’t have loads to share, I love writing about socks on Thursday, and I’m joined by a lovely gang who do too. If you’d like to join, feel free to link up and let one of us know.
A few people are on break at the moment, but you can check out more about socks from Maggie at Project(s) in Progress and Paula, whose temporarily on knitting hiatus but completing the Thirty Day Knitting Challenge. Fortuitously, her answer to today’s question is about socks! Check it out here!
On break sockalongers include: Alex at Alexand Knits, Hannah at unsophisticated + jejeune & Jennifer at A Creative Yarn.
And, just for giggles, I leave you with this … my newest “friend” in Philadelphia, Timothy. I see him each day (well, I assume it’s always the same squirrel) … he’s quite hyper, and I find watching him out my office window endlessly entertaining:
Okay, that’s all for now! Back tomorrow, barring any disasters, with the resumption of Friday Favorites — do stop by!

Love, love, love! I didn’t know the story behind the yarn…did I miss it somewhere? I thought it was super cool! I love the pic of the squirrel too 🙂 My office / craft room is on the second floor and I often get to see black squirrels scampering across the eaves of the townhouses next to mine. It kind of freaked me out at first because I’d never seen a black squirrel. Glad to see you have a little company and he gives you joy 😀
Oh, maybe I hadn’t shared! If so, I think it was just a passing reference to what the colors represented. Isn’t that cool though? And I’m very pleased with the name I’ve since thought up for my socks … they’re Tube Operators (ba-da-chump!) I’m not sure I’ve seen a black squirrel before …. they are incredibly fun to watch though – especially when you don’t feel like writing, hehe!

I love the name! You should google black squirrels. They are quite beautiful. I know what you mean about not feeling like writing. That’s been pretty much my entire week. Now, here it is almost 5pm on a Friday and I still probably have about 8 more hours of work to do to get a training completed 🙂 Looks like I’ll be working this weekend 😦
